“Europe on Screen” Film Festival Brings Cinematic Treasures to Jakarta

Indonesia’s capital once again becomes the center of European cinematography in June. The “Europe on Screen” festival opens its doors on June 12th and until June 22nd will offer film lovers a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich world of European cinema – completely free of charge.

A Colorful Mosaic of European Film

The Europe on Screen festival is an annual celebration of cinematography that brings a wide spectrum of films from across Europe to Jakarta. Visitors can expect a diverse program including films of various genres, from auteur drama through documentaries to experimental works that represent contemporary European cinematographic creation.

This festival is not just an ordinary film showcase – it is a cultural bridge connecting Indonesia with Europe through art that transcends linguistic and cultural boundaries. Every year it attracts thousands of viewers who yearn to discover new stories and perspectives.

Czech Representation: “The Widow’s Year”

Among this year’s cinematic gems, Czech representation is not missing. The drama “The Widow’s Year” will be screened twice:

  • June 21st at 4:30 PM (Kineforum, Suman Djaya)
  • June 22nd at 4:30 PM (Instituto Italiano di Cultura)

This Czech film represents a quality example of contemporary domestic cinematography and offers foreign audiences insight into Czech film art. The double screening will allow a larger number of interested viewers to see the film and reflects the growing interest in Czech culture in Southeast Asia.

Accessibility for All

One of the greatest advantages of the Europe on Screen festival is its free admission. This philosophy makes European cinematography accessible to a wide spectrum of viewers regardless of their economic circumstances. The festival thus fulfills its cultural-educational mission and supports the spread of European culture in the region.

An Opportunity for Discovery

For Indonesian audiences, the festival represents a unique opportunity to become acquainted with European cinematography that is often not commonly available in local cinemas. At the same time, it is an opportunity for European countries to present their cultural production and establish deeper cultural ties with Indonesia.

The Europe on Screen 2024 festival promises to be once again an unforgettable experience for all lovers of quality film. The ten-day program will offer plenty of opportunities to discover new film worlds and experience cultural enrichment that only international festivals can provide.
